
Dr. Seher Kuru began her academic career with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Gazi University between 2003 and 2007. Following her undergraduate studies, she gained industry experience by working as a representative in a pharmaceutical company from 2008 to 2010. Her pursuit of advanced education led her to Mersin University’s Institute of Science in 2010, where she was admitted to the Master’s program in Biology. Dr. Kuru completed her thesis titled “Taxonomic revision of parastenhelia (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Parastenheliidae) species inhabiting in the mediolittoral zone of Turkish coasts” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Süphan Karaytuğ in 2013. The same year, she embarked on her Doctoral program in the Department of Biology at Mersin University. In 2014, Dr. Kuru was appointed as an expert at the Mersin University Advanced Technology Education, Research, and Application Center (MEITAM). Further enhancing her academic portfolio, she participated in the Erasmus program in 2019 at Senckenberg (DMZB) for three months. Dr. Kuru achieved her doctorate in 2021 with her thesis “Partial taxonomic revision and phylogeny of the genera Klieonychocamptus noodt, 1958 and Echinolaophonte nicholls, 1941 (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Laophontidae)”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Süphan Karaytuğ and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serdar Sönmez. Her postdoctoral journey continued at Senckenberg (DMZB) as a researcher in the Fishnet project from 2021 to 2023. Since 2014, she has been serving as a CLSM and SEM expert at MEITAM. Dr. Kuru’s research primarily revolves around the taxonomy and phylogeny of the Harpacticoida, especially the Laophontidae family, and she is proficient in both CLSM and SEM imaging techniques.
